Better check the Minnesota fishing laws which can be found on the Minnesota DNR website. Yes it is illegal to fish out of season anywhere, including BWCAW. Penalties include, but are not limited to confiscation of all fishing tackle, canoes, etc for the entire party. Also figure fines & jail time. Not worth the risk. By the way, possession of fishing tackle on an out of season trip is considered sufficient evidence. So wait & go after opener, unless you've got money to burn.
